Pair of Decorative Vases
• Origin: France, one of the manufactories imitating the Sèvres style
• Period: ca. 1820–1840, late Empire
• Material: Hard-paste porcelain
• Technique: Hand painting, applied gilding, grisaille portrait medallions

Design & Decoration
• Form: Classic amphora shape with an elongated vertical silhouette
• Neck: Flared and fluted, resembling a stylized tulip or lotus — typical of the Empire style
• Handles: Sculpted with acanthus leaf reliefs, gilded and white-enameled — evoking antique symbolism
• Color: Deep coral-terracotta with rich glaze, fashionable during the Restoration and Louis-Philippe periods

Imagery
• Medallions: Monochrome grisaille portraits in antique profile style
 – Left vase: Male with laurel wreath, possibly Julius Caesar or a Roman emperor
 – Right vase: Female with Corinthian helmet — attribute of Minerva, goddess of wisdom and arts
• Frames: Oval with fine gold borders

These vases were typically made by or in the style of the Sèvres manufactory, also by French workshops like Samson or Paris porcelain.
